IEP Consultation & Collaborative Advocacy

Navigating special education can be difficult, even when families and schools share the same goal: helping a student succeed.

Heritage Speech and Sound provides IEP consultation and collaborative advocacy to help families better understand their child's educational needs, prepare for IEP meetings, and participate confidently as members of the educational team.

Our approach emphasizes collaboration, clear communication, and practical solutions. The goal is not to create conflict between families and schools, but to help parents and educators work together toward an appropriate educational plan for the student.

How I Can Help

IEP support may include:

  • Reviewing existing IEPs, evaluations, goals, accommodations, and related documents

  • Helping parents identify questions or concerns before an IEP meeting

  • Explaining special education terminology and the IEP process

  • Helping families organize and communicate their priorities

  • Reviewing speech, language, educational, and related evaluation information

  • Attending IEP meetings with parents

  • Helping the team consider appropriate goals, services, accommodations, and supports

  • Providing follow-up consultation after meetings

Virtual consultation and virtual IEP meeting participation are available, allowing services to be provided to families outside the immediate Panama City area when appropriate.

A Collaborative Approach

IEP meetings work best when families and educators are able to communicate clearly and remain focused on the individual needs of the student.

My role is to help families become informed and effective participants in that process while maintaining a professional and constructive relationship with the school team.

I bring experience in speech-language pathology, special education, IEP development, and school-based case management to help parents understand both their child's needs and the practical realities of providing services within a school setting.

The goal is to identify reasonable solutions whenever possible—not to make the process unnecessarily adversarial.

When Another Professional May Be More Appropriate

Heritage Speech and Sound provides educational consultation and advocacy, not legal representation or legal advice.

This service is best suited for families seeking a constructive, problem-solving approach with their child's school. Matters involving due process, litigation, or highly contentious disputes may be referred to a special education attorney or another appropriate professional.
